Gyroscope Exhibits and Architecture

Gyroscope is an award-winning design studio that creates museums and informal learning environments.

As an exhibit developer and designer, I worked on a variety of innovative, new, museum projects.  These included: The Leonardo, The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, The San Francisco Zoo, the California Science Center, and The Oslo Barnemuseum. Often with a focus on interactives.

All exhibits are a team endeavor, and interactives are a sub-specialty. Shown at right, are two interactives at the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature in Hawaii.

Concept development for the Leonardo in Salt Lake City

Working with our talented team, I developed and designed interactive exhibit ideas and gallery layouts with the team for the Leonardo Museum of Creativity and Innovation in Salt Lake City. Their vision is:

We sincerely believe in each person’s infinite potential. We see obstacles as opportunities to play beyond limits and discover each person’s unique genius. Our vision is to create a dynamic, influential space where people feel included, inspired, and connected to one another and the world.

California Science Center, the Big Lab

My role on this project was to create concept drawings, project management, and work on the final design. Gyroscope described the project in this way:

Gyroscope planned, designed, and installed the Big Lab, an innovative learning environment as part of California Science Center's on-site public charter school. As a design-build project, Gyroscope oversaw all aspects of the Big Lab including serving as architect of record and buying and stocking fish in the Eco Pond. The Big Lab is used by the school children every day for STEM experiments and data collection.  As part of the science center’s Amgen Center for Science Learning, the Big Lab provides high-quality learning experiences for teachers, parents, scientists, and other educators.  The Big Lab is located in a former historic armory building and has been featured on Iron Chef, the Discovery Channel, and in several movies.
